To Create

I received the new Distress Oxide colors earlier this week and played just a little bit.  I started with Aged Mahogany and Forest Moss putting the inks on my craft sheet, spraying with water and then dipping my paper (Dylusions Mixed Media Cardstock) into the ink.  While drying that layer I speckled some water over it with the Distress Sprayer.  Once dry I dipped again in the leftover inks and repeated the drying and dripping with water.  Next I did the same thing using Tattered Rose and Evergreen Bough right over my first two colors.  Isn't that pretty and wouldn't it be a fabulous mix for Christmas projects.

Over my background colors I stamped a large Wendy Vecchi background (WVBG008 - Vintage Tapestry) using her Fern Green Archival Ink from Ranger Ink.

The quote at the bottom is a Quietfire Design stamp (To Create is to Touch).  I used the Tim Holtz plateform to line it up for stamping and was really glad that I did.  I knew to make it stand it would have to be in white.  I had dried the Archival Ink and even used an anti static pad before stamping but when I put the powder on quite a bit stuck other places.  I brushed all the powder off, dried it very well in that area, used the anti static pad liberally, stamped again and added the white powder (Wow Super Fine).  It only stuck to the stamping and I heated it... however, I must not of pressed enough at the beginning of the word and I didn't get complete coverage.  The stamp was still in the platform so I inked, stamped, added powder and heated it again.  I was concerned it would make the detailed letters look really bad but overall it came out good.  They are a bit thicker loosing just a little of their wonderful detail but I could live with it.  Then I wondered if some of the embossing powder might stick at the top of the panel so put some up there, tapped the card, and heated the bits that stuck for another texture in my background.

The flowers are from the first set of Sizzix/Tim Holtz Wildflowers.  I cut 3 from water color paper and used Distress Oxides (Squeezed Lemonade, Bundled Sage) along with a water brush to add the color.  I added a piece of red patterned washi tape across the card, figured out placement of the flowers trimming the stems, glued them to the card, added a yellow washi tape to hide the bottom of the stems and finished with Tim Holtz Craft Thread wrapping and making a bow.  I thought it needed just a bit more so I added Distress Paint Tarnished Brass to the edges of the panel, covered the botttom area with a scrap of paper and splattered some of the Tarnished Brass over the flowers and top part of the panel.  I like the hints of metallic as the card moves in the light.  I layered the panel to a white panel and then a folded green card.

I LOVE this color combination! I think these new Oxides are some of my favorites! I had a play with mine this weekend, too, and I'm loving these colors! What a beautiful card you have made with those lovely wildflowers on top of that gorgeous background! Love this!
